Tchau Estados Unidos!

I am truly blessed! This week has been so packed with miracles and blessings!

I received my travel plans on Friday and I will be going from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, then to Lisbon! It is going to be a long flight, but I cannot wait! I leave on Monday, so I am not necessarily sure when I will be emailing again. I have officially been on my mission for a month! Time has flown by!

My companion and I decided to join the choir here and there is nothing like it. There is so much peace and happiness as we sing the beautiful arrangements. I love being surrounded by other missionaries. All of the people here could well be doing something else, and yet, we are all here giving 18-24 months out of our lives to serve our Heavenly Father. It is truly remarkable.

I am not sure if I have talked about TRCs before, so I'll just explain them. TRC stands for Teaching Resource Center. We have the opportunity to go once a week and teach a member of the church a lesson in Portuguese. The majority of the time, they are returned missionaries that spoke our language on the mission. We teach the members because they have things going on in their lives and by sharing these lessons, it helps them. We have changed from talking to them in person, to talking to people around the world via Skype. My companion Sister Stubbs and I had the opportunity on Thursday to talk to a woman named Marta who is from Brazil, served her mission in Brazil, and now lives in Hawaii. We got to know her a bit and we were able to share what was probably the simplest lesson we have taught yet about the Book of Mormon. She started crying and telling us how much she needed to hear that lesson. It was the best feeling in the world. I absolutely love this gospel.

We were playing volleyball on Wednesday and I was in the front row in the middle. An elder from our zone spiked the ball, it hit my head, I just stood there and could not move my body, then I just fell to the floor. It was the strangest thing in the world!

There have been several tours here to see the new buildings. We were able to give Elder Zaballos (a member of the seventy. A general authority in our church) and his wife. It was such an amazing experience! We then gave a tour to Elder Keetch and his family and it was about 20 people. It was a bit more difficult, but I was able to bear my testimony and it was a really neat experience.
We were told yesterday to give an impromptu tour to President Russell M. Nelson (he is the president of the quorum of the twelve apostles) and I was so nervous!! It was a great tour and bearing your testimony in front of an apostle is the most humbling experience. Elders from our district gave a tour to Elder Holland. We then had a devotional and it was wonderful! We had to head back to the classroom and we ran into Elder Bednar and I was able to shake his hand. I don't have any pictures of any of that so you will just have to believe me! I am truly blessed to be here at the MTC!

We had to say goodbye to 4 people from our zone that were leaving to Cape Verde. It was so sad to see them go, but I know that they will be amazing!

I love this gospel and my Savior Jesus Christ with all my heart.

I want to leave a quote by Elder Oaks for you all. "Who are you? You are sons and daughters of God! Everything else you and I are is subordinate to that. Think of it! We are royalty- the sons and daughters of God!"

I love you all! Thank you so much for the emails and the constant support!

Otra semana em O CTM!

Happy Father's day to all the fathers out there! I hope y'all had an amazing day! I love you daddy!

These weeks are getting shorter and shorter and it is freaking me out! I have 2 weeks left here at the MTC and then I will be in Portugal!! AHHHHHH! It's is super crazy!

Monday: Every Monday we get food catered here and we got Taco bell today! It was pretty good! Julia once again did not pray and doesn't seem receptive to praying either. We will definitely keep trying because we love her so dang much!

Tuesday: We had a devotional today by Elder and Sister Nielson. Sister Nielson was so relatable when she spoke because she spoke about how she really struggled when her husband got called as a general authority. She would have to give talks about every week and it would just terrify her. She learned to completely trust and rely on the Lord and she felt so much better and much more confident. Elder Nielson spoke about how Heavenly Father KNOWS His missionaries and is mindful of them. That gives me so much peace and comfort to know. I will be okay and Heavenly Father is going to take care of me!

Wednesday: Every Wednesday, a new wave of missionaries comes to the MTC and we were not scheduled to host them, but surprise! We hosted! We had study time planned but that all flew out the window when we were told we needed to host. We were also told that there were 500 missionaries coming in so it was all hands on deck. I ended up hosting 2 sisters who were so dang cute, and half an elder. Sisters aren't allowed to take Elders up to their residence, obviously, so I had to find another Elder to take over and luckily I did! I love getting to know the new missionaries! I ended up being 30 minutes late to class, but I wasn't the last one in, so no worries!

Thursday: Since we got 500 new missionaries, the lines are so so dang long. For everything. It's definitely something to get used to! JULIA FINALLY PRAYED. I AM SO SO HAPPY!!!!!! She also said the closing prayer of our lesson and it was such an amazing prayer! I have so much love for her! I also have the best parents in the whole planet! They sent me two packages! One contained sparkling cider and candy and the other had my favorite strawberry milk and little alpaca/llama/ostrich figurines! It was the best surprise! WHERE THE HECK DID Y'ALL FIND THAT BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE?!?!??!

Friday: My companion and I have been trying to make our study time better by planning what we want to accomplish during the study times, in the morning. My goal before I leave the MTC is to read through the Book of Mormon entirely and I am definitely loving my personal study time! It is my most cherished time at the MTC. I am also underlining every time that there is a reference to God or Christ and it is on every single page! It's amazing! I just love learning more about them!

Saturday: We did an activity during class where we went up to random missionaries and bore our testimonies about the Book of Mormon to everyone we could find. We ended up talking to 13 people in 20 minutes! It was really neat to be able to do that! I read more out of the Book of Mormon today! I love Mosiah 2:41!! If never-ending happiness isn't something that entices you to follow the commandments, I don't know what else will! We also read Alma 36 during our companionship study and holy moly, what an amazing chapter!!!!! Verses 19 and 20 are just amazing!

Sunday: My district and I all sang "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" and it was so good, if i do say so myself! Sister Stubbs and I decided to join the MTC choir and it was definitely an amazing experience! I loved being a part of it! We also had Donny Osmond speak to us! If any of y'all don't know who he is, he is the voice of General Shang in Mulan and he sang "Let's Get Down To Business" How awesome!!!!

I love the MTC and what I have learned here so far! It still hasn't sunk in that I'm a missionary, but that will eventually happen.
Eu amo a Jesus Cristo e a Deus com tudo meu coração.

Amo Voces!!!

I AM IN CLOUD NINE!!!

This week has definitely just flown by! The time here at the MTC is the weirdest thing in the world. I feel like I have been here for 5 years, but I also feel as if I just got here. I also have no idea what is going on in the world right now, so if y'all have any updates that are worth sharing, send them my way!

Monday: We had Chick-fil-a (which was so delicious!) We moved to another classroom to accommodate the new missionaries coming in. The picture of the new buildings is where our new classroom is. There are two buildings. The smaller one is where the missionaries learning weird languages go. There are only classrooms on the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor is used for what is called TRC and that is where we teach members the lessons in Portuguese. They are trying to find help for their problems that we need to find out what they are. Being a missionary is kind of like being a detective! The other, bigger building is where our classroom is located and that building is purely classrooms! We just moved to a new room because more Spanish speaking missionaries are coming and they need to accommodate them all. We didn't really want to move, but then we saw the view from our new room and it is ten times better than we thought!!!! We have a clear shot of the temple, and it is the best view in the world!!! Outside the new building, they hang new flags everyday  from countries where missionaries are sent and there was a day where both the Costa Rican and Colombian flags were up. It was just the best thing in the world to see (since my dad is Colombian and my mom's family is Costa Rican) !! I also carry a picture of my family with me everywhere I go in my journal!

Tuesday: I am convinced that we have the best MTC teachers in the world. They care so much about us and they love us dearly! I feel like I have gained a whole new family here at the MTC! We also had a devotional (which is where everyone here at the MTC gets together to listen to a speaker! It is usually a general authority in our church) and it was given by Jorge F. Zeballos. He and his wife both spoke and they said some things that I really needed to hear. Something that I took from it was that learning the language should not be a reason to fear. I can understand everything being said, but when it comes to my turn to talk, I go into a weird half Portuguese half Spanish mix. I have a pretty thick Colombian accent when I speak Portuguese. Whoops! I also say "pero" a lot which means "but" in Spanish, but it doesn't mean the same in Portuguese word! It means "more" in Portuguese. I just need to stop that habit, and quickly.

Wednesday: We had another opportunity to host today! It was definitely interesting. Since they opened the new building, they wanted some people to wait at the new buildings for the new missionaries to come so we could lead them to their classrooms. My companion and I went for it! We were waiting in the lobby for about 30 minutes just watching the new missionaries going into the other building, when the man in charge told us that maybe he made a mistake and that no one was scheduled to go into the building where we were. My companion and I decided to try to make ourselves useful and went into the other building to lead missionaries where to go. It was really fun!

Thursday: I love everyone in my District and Zone so much! I appreciate every one of them as well for their hard work and example! I see it more and more each day! How on earth did I live my life without these people?!  There is a part on all the floors in the building that plays instrumental music and has a beautiful picture on the wall. We have called it the music room and my companion and I always make a beeline to get there for personal study! Music is so amazing and makes such a difference.

Friday: I was playing volleyball in the gym (which is the only way I enjoy exercise time) and the ball was coming low, so I knelt and ended up sliding a bit and skinned my knee. They tell us not to dive, and I guess that's what I get for unintentionally diving. Lesson learned! We are trying to teach Julia, one of our investigators (someone who is interested in the church. For our purposes, both of our teachers are acting as our investigators) how to pray and she isn't following our invites, but we will keep working on it! She is so great, and we love her so much! They are also shooting a movie here for some open house they're having, so camera crews have been here all over the place! We may have a part in it where we're praying! Whoop whoop! I may get really famous, but who knows? ;)

Saturday: We did an activity today where we all just taught each other the second lesson in Portuguese and it was so wonderful to hear the testimonies of the other people in our zone. The spirit was so strong and I could just feel the love that they all have for the Gospel and the love that Heavenly Father (God) has for each one of them. My goodness, I love them so much! My heart is so full!

Sunday: THE MOST AMAZING THING IN THE WORLD HAPPENED YESTERDAY. YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE WHO WAS AT THE MTC!!!! I SHOOK PRESIDENT UCHTDORF'S HAND AND HUGGED HIS WIFE. I WAS ON CLOUD NINE!!!!! This has been my favorite day at the MTC by far!!! We heard he was having a tour of the new building (He is the second counselor to our Prophet/President of our church, and is a huge deal. He's basically a celebrity among Mormons), and we looked out the window and saw that there was a HUGE crowd of people and right in the middle of it all was President Uchtdorf!! We decided to stay upstairs and to just let him be. We were planning on going to the temple, so we walked downstairs and the crowd was dispersing back to their classrooms. My district and I were making our way to the temple when we see a full head of grey hair appear right in front of us. I could not breathe. My stomach went in knots, my brain turned to mush, my heart was pounding, and I got my camera out. I had to take a picture with him!!! His wife looked at us and asked who wanted a hug from their mother and I said ME of course! Who doesn't want a hug from Sister Uchtdorf/ their mother! There was an elder in my district that took a video of me hugging Sister Uchtdorf and President Uchtdorf! OH!!! My companion and I are now Sister Training Leaders! Basically, all that means is that we have a flip phone here, and we check up on the other sisters in our zone and make sure they are all okay! We will have this assignment until we leave on July 4th! It’s been fun and crazy busy here! We then had a devotional later in the evening and it was about the power of the Book of Mormon! It was so great! I felt so empowered last night and like I could do anything!

It was a fantastic week! I love this Gospel and my Savior, Jesus Christ with all of my being!

I love you all so so so much!

Happy Monday everyone!

This week has been so jam packed with things!

Monday night: We were teaching Joana and the spirit was so strong in that lesson. I had to put my part of the lesson down because it just didn't feel right at that moment. I close my journal and looked right at her and told her that we love her so much and we pray for her every single time we pray. We both started crying. My heart is so full of love for her! She is such an amazing person!

Tuesday: There was a quote that was said in a video we were watching about the Gift of Tongues that has stuck with me all week. It is "Everyone speaks the universal language of the spirit." That is such an amazing quote and it is so true! No matter how broken my Portuguese may be, as long as we can invite the spirit into our lesson, we are in good hands. We also had the privilege of having someone from the Quorum of the Twelve speak to us in our devotional, Massimo De Feo. He mainly spoke about relying on the Lord in everything and that has been my mantra this whole week. There is no way that I can do this all without Him in my life.

Wednesday: We all had the opportunity to host the new missionaries coming in! I hosted 3 new missionaries, and I love them all! I'm so glad that the girls weren't balling after leaving their families, because I would not have been able to handle that at all, but we get to host this week too! (Hosting is when we all stand by the curb and get the girl's luggage’s and send them through different buildings to get their books and name tags and all that fun stuff, then to their rooms, then to their classrooms and the fun starts all over. After we hosted, we had a little time, and then we went to the new classroom building that they just finished, so we could take pictures. Those pictures will be seen by the FIRST PRESIDENCY!!!!! HOW AMAZING, RIGHT?!?! They are so gorgeous and the pictures that are all over the building are so realistic and beautiful! I want to spend all of my time here!

Thursday: Today was a little rough for me, but I asked a companionship of elders in my district to give me a priesthood blessing. They gave it to me right after dinner, it was Elder Virgin's first time ever doing it and it was the best one I have ever received. He was so in tune with what Heavenly Father needed me to hear, and I could not stop crying during the blessing. I felt so much comfort and peace just go through all of my body. We had our last lesson with Joana today and she has come such a long way! Her main concern has been praying and not receiving answers, but she opened up to us and let us know that she finally received an answer from Heavenly Father and felt His love for her! I am so happy and so proud of her! I also saw Sam Allred which was such a nice surprise!

Friday: We read a chapter out of the Book of Mormon as a class and it is such a neat experience to do it all together. I love my district (class) so much! We are all learning muito from each other! We practiced street contacting the other day! It's where you just go up to someone and try to set up an appointment with someone to teach them more about the church. It was nerve-wracking and it was just to our teacher! I'm going to be a hot mess when I need to speak to the people on the streets in Portugal! Both of our teachers are our investigators this week, so that is going to be fun. There are not enough hours in a day to prepare to lessons!!

Saturday: We read another chapter out of the Book of Mormon in class today! I love and cherish those moments! We read out of Alma 26. We read out of Ether 12 the day before and they are both such amazing chapters! We did an activity where we taught the first lesson in 3 minutes, then 2 minutes, then 1 minute, then 30 seconds. It was a great experience to see how much you can teach in that time! I love this gospel so much!

Sunday: It was fast Sunday and I bore my testimony mainly in Portuguese yesterday during sacrament meeting!!! It was so great! THE GIFT OF TONGUES IS REAL.

I loved it! We also had many devotionals and they were all so amazing! We also spoke about the Atonement during church and I loved what was being taught. The Atonement is for everyone and the light of Christ can reach anyone. No matter how far you think you have gone off the path, Christ's love and mercy can still reach you. You are loved and you are not forgotten.

About the MTC

We have exercise time everyday, so I play volleyball and I get really sweaty because it's so dang hot outside, but it is so so so fun! I am starting to get a farmers tan from it though.

The tomato basil soup is by far my favorite thing to eat here. It has only been served one day, but I love it!!

Also, If y'all would like to send me letters, there is a website called DearElder and you can type a letter and it'll be sent here to the MTC! My address is:

My companion says "Eu Nao se" several times a day,
so we decided to tally how many times she said it in a day.

My companion's mom knows about my llama obsession,
so she tried to find llama candy and the closest thing were horses, so she sent that instead. How sweet!
